Central Tyre Inflation (CTI) systems enable operators to optimise tyre pressures for changing operating conditions, helping improve vehicle mobility, traction, tyre life, fuel efficiency and operator comfort.
Modern CTI systems are increasingly sophisticated, using automated pressure management to inflate, deflate and monitor tyres while the vehicle remains in operation. However, these benefits depend on reliable air transfer between stationary and rotating components.
As the primary air transfer interface, the rotary seal is a critical risk point in any CTI system.
A loss of sealing integrity can compromise wheel valve actuation, pressure monitoring and overall system reliability, (mobility) making seal selection a critical consideration during vehicle and axle development.

CTI systems place unique demands on rotary sealing technology.
While often overlooked, the rotary seal plays a critical role in system performance. It must maintain exceptionally low leakage not only at operating pressures up to 12 bar, but also at very low pressures and, in some cases, under vacuum conditions during tyre deflation.
Even minor leakage can affect pressure control, wheel valve operation and overall system reliability.
