Reciprocating Shaft Seals for High-Pressure Performance

A reciprocating seals’ function is to seal the space under static conditions during relative, reciprocating motion so that the pressure can be generated and maintained over a specific timescale.

The cross-section of reciprocating seals has a larger radial dimension that exceeds the radial dimension of the assembly space between the seal housing and the rod or cylinder bore.

Critical to the reliability of any reciprocating seal system is the surface condition of the dynamic interface. Reciprocating seals are called “self-acting” as the design allows maximum contact pressures between the seal and housing walls, meaning they always exceed the inner and outer seal diameter, so no leakage can occur.

Used in a wide range of applications for pumps, cylinders and valves, Reciprocating seals are designed to combat extreme temperatures and pressures or unfriendly environments where hazardous fluids are a factor.

Because there is such a wide diversity of applications, the same shaft specification will not always achieve the optimum result.

Reciprocating seals types include; hydraulic seals, heavy-duty hydraulic seals, pneumatic seals, ptfe seals, piston sealspiston seals, rod seals, spring energised seals and wiper seals.

FTL has a wealth of experience to specify the right material and profile to ensure the optimum seal performance.

What are the benefits of our reciprocating seals?

  • Long-lasting results: Our reciprocating seals are hard-wearing, resistant to viscous materials clogging up a system and are capable of enduring high pressure.
  • Leakage resistant: With the way they are designed, our seals help to prevent leakage of harmful chemicals and lower the environmental impact.
  • Versatility: Our seals come in a wide range of applications and can be used for pumps, cylinders, valves and more.
  • Fast installation: All of our seals are easy to install and repair, leading to a more cost-effective solution.

FTL

Hydraulic Seals

FTL supplies hydraulic seal solutions for light, medium and heavy duty industrial applications. In the case of light and medium duty applications, the application parameters generally allow the use of

FTL

Heavy Duty Hydraulic Seals

Our heavy duty hydraulic seals are manufactured in a choice of NBR, HNBR, FPM and PTFE, to suit the demands of the application.

FTL

Pneumatic Seals

Across rod seals, wiper seals and piston seals, FTL can provide custom design solutions across a range of pneumatic sealing systems.

FTL

PTFE Seals

PTFE seals can provide a good sealing solution for applications requiring low friction at high speeds and pressures.

FTL

Piston Seals

FTL engineers will work closely with you to ensure that your piston seals are designed along the same lines as the demands of the application.

FTL

Rod Seals

Rod seals work together with wiper seals to protect a hydraulic system against external contaminants, including dirt, dust and outside weather conditions..

FTL

Spring Energised Seals

Spring energised seals, also known as 'all-in-one' T-seals, are used in a wide range of static and dynamic applications, particularly in extreme temperatures with high resistance to chemical media..

FTL

Wiper Seals

FTL offers a broad selection of wiper seal profiles (either press-in or snap-in), with standard and custom designed solutions available to fit any application.
